How To Hunt The Grey Ghost with Colter Fosdik - Episode 74
Monday Mar 18, 2019
Monday Mar 18, 2019
This episode I have Colter Fosdik on the podcast. It goes without saying that the most important aspect of life to Colter is his kids and his family. He does his best to involve his kids in the outdoors and is willing to put in the extra work required to have them along. Colter has been bowhunting for quite awhile and landing his family back in AZ from MT has his focus shifted to the gray ghost. Since then he has lived and breathed coues deer. In this episode we cover:
- His start into hunting coues deer
- The type of terrain the coues deer like to call home
- Javelina in coues country
- Aiming on coued deer, and potentially anticipating their quick reflexes
- His bow sight: what he prefers, ways he uses it, and what he might switch to
- Arrow setup
- Story of his 2019 coues deer
This has some excellent information on coues deer hunting. I hope it helps you be successful next time you chase the gray ghost.

Tim is a family man and puts them first in all aspects of life. It’s not a secret that he is also very passionate about the outdoors and spending as much time in them as possible, which to him is a normal part of his self-sufficient lifestyle.
The love and passion for the outdoors all started for Tim at the age of 12. He would simply grab a backpack, sleeping bag, fishing pole or rifle, and go give her hell. More often than not, he ventured out alone, with the solitude of the outdoors calling his name. His camera days started in college when he bought the best camera he could afford and began filming his steel head fishing trips.
The idea behind SOLO HNTR was to be different. “I want my viewers to feel the experience rather than just see it.” And boy do he and his co-hosts deliver on that. In this episode we cover:
- Tim asks me a few questions about myself
- Chat a little about editing
- His life behind the scenes of SOLO HNTR and how he balances family, hunting, destination hunts and what is most important
- His kids and hunting
- A little about his sheep hunt
- The most overlooked aspect of filming a hunt
- The most uncomfortable situations for him when hunting, the kind that make his skin crawl
- Experiences when running into other hunters
- His most rewarding hunt to date and why

Iron Will Broadheads with the Man Behind the Plan Bill - Episode 69
Monday Feb 11, 2019
Monday Feb 11, 2019
It all started with family for Bill Vanderheyden, the Co-Founder and Lead Engineer of Iron Will Broadheads. His grandfather and father had long been telling of the adventure to be found from within the Wisconsin woodland.
Bill’s love of the outdoors paralleled his affinity for math and science, especially physics, which led him to become a mechanical engineer. He has earned a total of 50 patents throughout his career. All the while, his passion for the outdoors continued to grow, with ever more time spent hunting and exploring remote locales.
Since moving to Colorado in 1999, Bill began supplementing his whitetail hunts with backcountry elk hunts. Finally, in 2004, after many years of hard work with no payoff, it all came together and he shot a nice bull. Dreadfully, the broadhead apparently hit the back edge of the shoulder blade and penetrated only a few inches and the bull was never recovered. This incident led to wanting more out of a broadhead.
The pursuit began by analyzing the physics behind every aspect of the shot and reading scientific studies. Current broadhead offerings were researched, purchased, and thoroughly tested. Bill was looking for a broadhead that would achieve maximum penetration, pass through bone undamaged, maintain a razor sharp edge, and fly great at long distances. Every broadhead tested fell short in one or more of these areas. Frustrated with the offerings, he decided to engineer his own broadhead. Over 7 years later, numerous field tests, computer simulations, material tests, all resulted in a long-range shooting broadhead that maximizes penetration, durability, and lethality. A broadhead we all now know as Iron Will.
In this episode we cover:
- Bill’s Story
- Time line from idea, to drawing, to actual product in hand
- Broadhead accuracy
- Performance in wind
- Decision to go with bleeder blades
- What is up next for Iron Will
- And A lot more

In this episode Jordan Budd joins the show. We cover her 2018 Wyoming elk hunt. This hunt had a lot of ups and downs with big obstacles to overcome. Excuse the poor audio, it was done via phone recorder and we all know that Wyoming and Nebraska have great phone reception...not. Other than that, excellent show and I hope you enjoy it!
